Rocky Road was invented by Russian immigrant Sam Altshuler who arrived in the U.S. in 1917. He founded the Annabelle Candy Company in 1950 and began making Rocky Road candy bars that same year. Contrary to popular belief there is no connection between the Rocky Road candy and the Rocky Road ice cream.
